Elephant house

Germany

Since its opening in 2004, the new elephant house of Cologne’s Zoo has been the biggest elephant park in Europe. Up to 20 elephants have found a new home in this spacious accommodation, which is tailored to their specific needs. The animals can freely roam an area of 15,000 m², which visitors to the zoo can walk around almost the whole way. This adds a whole new dimension to the zoo experience. The elephant house itself occupies an area of 5,000 m². Its curved shape mimics the typical back of an elephant.
