New sea lock Terneuzen

The Netherlands

The Nieuwe Sluis sea lock near the city of Terneuzen is making the ports of Gent (Belgium) and Terneuzen future proof. We are building the lock within the confines of a deep watertight sheetpile to prevent damaging the environment. We’re using diaphragm walls instead of piling and are therefore making a lot less noise. By creating a temporary channel we’re making it possible for the existing Middensluis (middle lock) to stay open for traffic for a much longer time.
